ELMONT, N.Y. – The Empire State Development Board approved construction of the new, New York Islanders arena.

What To Expect From The Project

The total cost of the construction project is going to be $1.3 billion. The project will, of course, consist of a new arena for the New York Islanders. But that is not going to be the only thing being built. A new hotel and retail complex will also be constructed as well.

This new complex and arena will be next to the historic Belmont Park. This means that the New York Islanders will once again play in Long Island.

This move will also be good for Belmont Park. With a new hotel and retail complex, horse race fans will have a new place to stay for the races. The Belmont Stakes is the third and final race of the Triple Crown. Attendance is high for this race and this new hotel will accommodate horse race fans from all over the world.

There is a slight setback that Belmont Park has to deal with due to the construction. Races at Belmont Park have to move to a nearby aqueduct due to construction. It is currently unknown if construction will affect the 2020 Belmont Stakes.

Some Locals Are Not Happy

Not everyone is excited about the new construction project. Some residents in Elmont and Floral Park believe that this project will have a negative effect on them. They believe that traffic will increase due to the new arena and retail complex.

This area will get especially busy during the NHL season and during the Belmont Stakes. The local communities are threatening to sue to prevent the project from happening. For now, the project is greenlit. Construction of the new arena is expected to finish by the 2021-22 NHL season.

NICHOLS, N.Y. – Tioga Downs Casino Resort will launch their new sportsbook on Friday.

It has been a long time coming, but New York will finally have sportsbooks open this week. Multiple casinos are planning to launch their sportsbooks in the next few days. Tioga Downs Casino has shown everyone what their FanDuel Sportsbook will look like.

The Amenities For The FanDuel Sportsbook

There are plenty of amenities put in place for those who visit the new FanDuel Sportsbook. From the start, you will be able to see that there are about 27 televisions around the sportsbook. Each of them will be used to show an ongoing game or display the current odds.

Around the televisions, there is seating for around 50 customers. Seating includes lounge seats and high tables. There are also drink rails available.

SportsBettingNewYork.com knows bettors will have plenty of opportunities to make a wager at the FanDuel Sportsbook. The sportsbook will have eight betting windows available. Customers will be able to ask the staff questions about their potential bets. If customers want privacy or speed, they can use one of the 14 sports betting kiosks.

CLEVELAND – Odell Beckham says that playing for the Cleveland Browns will make him a better player.

Odell Beckham was originally a wide receiver for the New York Giants. During the offseason, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns. In an interview with Complex Beckham explained why he is so excited to play for the Browns.

“I just felt with the Giants I was stuck at a place that wasn’t working for me anymore,” said Beckham. “So, I think allowing me to be in an environment where I can be myself and give it a different approach, I feel like my football will benefit.”

On and off the field, Beckham was on a short leash playing for the Giants. Beckham was the face of the Giants and for many, the face of the NFL. This made the Giants owners want Beckham to act in a dignified manner. The politics and the culture of the Giants did not mesh well with Beckham. Now that he is with the Browns, Beckham is far from the politics that the Giants had.

“I’m just excited about being able to play football again and not have to deal with all the other stuff and politics that came with my previous role,” said Beckham.

On July 25, the Browns training camp will begin in full swing. In his Instagram story, Beckham said he would be off social media until July 1. He wants to lock in for his training regimen and get used to playing with the Browns.

New York Gaming Commission OK’s New Sports Betting Rules

Sportsbooks are hoping to open before football season begins.

ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York Gaming Commission unanimously approved sports betting rules on Monday.

What Is Currently Allowed

Right now, sportsbooks can only open in retail locations. There are four casinos that have approval to have sports gambling in upstate New York. In the future, seven tribal casinos could open sportsbooks if they choose to do so. Licensing for sports gambling is likely to start this summer.

There are also some limits on what gamblers can wager on. New York sportsbooks cannot take wagers on New York collegiate games. This includes Columbia, Cornell, Wagner, or any other colleges from the state. Sportsbooks are also not allowed to take bets on college games that happen in the state. This includes games not involving New York colleges.

The Next Steps For New York

There is still more work that needs to happen for New York sports betting. Upstate casinos are undergoing construction to build sports betting lounges. The del Lago sportsbook has partnered with DraftKings. The casino is going to have LED terminals, video display walls, up to 20 sports betting kiosks, and more. Similar amenities are expected in the other three approved casinos.v

On top of that, lawmakers are working on creating laws that would allow mobile and online sports betting in New York. Senator Joseph Addabbo has introduced NY SB 17 which would allow mobile wagering to happen.

There are a couple of factors that are going against mobile wagering right now. The legislative session ends on June 19. That leaves only a week for the bill to pass through the entirety of New York’s Congress.

Governor Andrew Cuomo is also a hurdle to surpass as well. In the past, Gov. Cuomo has opposed the idea of mobile sports wagering. He had previously insisted that mobile wagering must go through a voter referendum. That would take up to two more years to do.

Regardless, New York will soon have sportsbooks opening up in the state. Sportsbooks are hoping to open by the end of summer, around August 1. If they are successful in doing so, sportsbooks will open at the start of the NFL preseason. This will maximize initial profits for the new sportsbooks.

The Commission will set out to vote on the final rule set for sports betting in New York. One of the rules that may be approved today is there will be no bets on New York-based colleges. This means that no bets will be on Syracuse, Cornell, or any colleges from the state.

Bettors will also not be able to bet on any college games happening in New York. This includes games not involving New York college teams.

Once the vote happens, the sportsbooks still need to get a sports betting license first. This will take a little bit of time to do and sportsbooks will not be immediately available. Sportsbooks in New York are hoping to open by the end of summer before football season begins.

For now, sports betting will likely take place in four upstate New York casinos. Lawmakers are currently in the process of getting mobile sports wagering approved. If that happens, New York City residents will not have to travel to bet on sports.

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. – The Yellow Brick Road Casino will begin renovations this week.

It is the four-year anniversary since the Yellow Brick Road Casino opened its doors. To celebrate, the Oneida Indian Nation will begin renovations of the casino this week. Renovations include an exterior overhaul and the inclusion of a new sportsbook.

A New Sportsbook And A New Look

The name of the sportsbook at the Yellow Brick Road Casino will be The Lounge. Caesars Sports will run operations of The Lounge. The technology partner is Scientific Games. Like most sportsbooks around the country, The Lounge will have all the latest amenities.

The Lounge will feature LED terminals that will allow you to place your bets. A full-service bar will be available in The Lounge as well. With plenty of seating in The Lounge, there will be odds boards always updating. These oddsboards will also update for in-game bets as well. The Lounge will also feature VIP areas which will have private televisions.

Adding The Lounge will not be the only renovation that will happen. A large portion of the renovation will focus on the casino’s exterior. The exterior will be completely redone to give the Yellow Brick Road Casino a brand-new look. Owners of the casino said the construction will have a minimal impact on the casino’s operations. The casino will remain open during construction.
