NEW YORK – Forbes magazine has listed the top fifty franchises worldwide in terms of their worth. Seven of their top ten teams are within the United States.

Reigning in supreme are the Dallas Cowboys who have an estimated worth of $5 billion. It’s no surprise that the Cowboys are ranked number one as they’re known as “America’s Team” and their fans are diehard, regardless of their season records. Last year, the Cowboys finished first in the NFC East with a record of 10-6. They gained access to postseason play and edged out the Seattle Seahawks for the Wild Card 24-22. For the NFC Divisional game against the Lost Angeles Rams, they lost 22-30.

The Other Teams In The Top Ten

The New York Yankees clinched the second spot on the list with a worth of $4.6 billion dollars. Like the Cowboys, the Yankees have the love of their fanbase in their corner. They are known as “America’s Team” when it comes to baseball. With 27 World Series titles and 40 AL Pennants, they are definitely a talented bunch, no matter what era they’re in. They are presently number one in the AL East with a 64-35 record. The Yankees currently have odds of +350 to win the World Series.

Each of these franchises within the top ten are from various sports and countries. However, the bulk of the top fifty is comprised of NFL teams. The reason that the NFL is the most lucrative sport of any franchise is due to the amount of money that comes from contracts with television networks. Each team can bring in more than $250 million a year in just television deals.

NY Knicks Add Five Free Agents To Roster

The New York Knicks are trying to create a strong roster for the upcoming season.
They have currently signed five out of the six free agents they wanted.
General Manager Scott Perry is excited about the new additions to his team.

NEW YORK – The New York Knicks have signed five new players to their 2019-2020 roster. These signees are all a part of the Knicks plan to rebuild their team into a dynamic set of players on the court. With all of the new faces on the team, the franchise just might have a shot at the finals this year, which is the endgame for Perry and Knicks fans everywhere.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Wayne, Taj, Elfrid, Bobby, and Julius to New York,” said General Manager Scott Perry in a statement. “Collectively, we’re adding a mix of extremely talented and experienced multi-dimensional players who will improve our team as we continue building out a deep and versatile roster. These players are all tough-minded, motivated and ready to compete, and we’re excited to have them as part of the Knicks family.”

What Players Were Signed?

Julius Randle, a 24-year-old power forward/center from the New Orleans Pelicans signed a three-year deal with the Knicks for a reported $63 million dollars. Randle is six foot nine and 250 pounds. During his one season with the Pelicans in 2018, Randle was able to bank some major stats to his record. He averaged over 25 points per game in a total of 49 games. Being as young as he is, he has still not hit the peak of his career which could result in some majors gains for the Knicks this season.

Bobby Portis, a 24-year-old power forward from the Washington Wizards signed a two-year contract with the New York Knicks for $31 million dollars. He is the tallest player to be signed by the team at six foot eleven and 250 pounds. In over 50 games last season, Portis was able to average over 14 points a game. Portis spent his 2018-2019 season split between the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. During his first game for the Wizards, he scored 30 points to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-106.

Power forward Taj Gibson inked a two-year deal for $20 million dollars with the New York Knicks. Gibson, 34, is one of the older players to join the franchise. Gibson stands tall at six foot nine and weighs 232 pounds. Playing two seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves and starting in 139 games while playing in 152 games during his time as a Timberwolf. He averaged over 10 points per game last season.

Shooting guard Wayne Ellington, 31, from the Detroit Pistons has signed on with the Knicks for two years. His contract is worth $16 million dollars. Ellington is six foot five and weighs 200 pounds. For the 2018-2019 season, he played with both the Miami Heat and the Detroit Pistons. In Miami, he played in 25 games and averaged over 8 points a game. While playing for Detroit, he took the court in 28 games and averaged 12 points per game.

Twenty-five-year-old point guard Elfrid Payton signed a two-year deal for $16 million dollars with the team. Payton is six foot four and weighs 185 pounds. He played his 2018-2019 season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He started all 42 games that he played in and averaged over 10 points per game while with the Pelicans.

Reggie Bullock was supposed to be the sixth player to sign with the Knicks, however, his contract is being given a second look. Bullock is a 28-year-old shooting guard/small forward from the Los Angeles Lakers. He is six foot seven and weighs 205 lbs. During his stint with the Lakers, he played in 19 games and averaged over 9 points a game. He originally had a two-year contract for $21 million dollars with the Knicks set to be signed but he has sustained multiple injuries throughout his four-year professional career history-making New York rethink the contract.

Zion Williamson was selected number one overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, while RJ Barret was selected third.

LAS VEGAS – In what is set to be one of the most highly anticipated NBA Summer League games this month, Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans are set to face off against RJ Barrett and the New York Knicks on Friday, July 5 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Both former Duke superstars and 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year hopefuls will be on full display at UNLV. As of now, Williamson is favored to win the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year award at (-155) betting odds by popular online sportsbook Bovada. Barrett sits two spots behind at (+450) betting odds.

Only two days after the NBA Draft, Barrett traveled to Santa Monica in order to present the 2019 Rookie of the Year Award.

“The NBA Awards was great,” said Barrett. “Hopefully I’ll win the award next year. It was good to experience that.”

Barrett was projected by many to be chosen as the number one overall pick for the 2019 NBA Draft before the 2018 college basketball season began. But, Zion Williamson has since taken the basketball world by storm.

“He’s a freak,” said Barrett in an interview with the New York Post following the Knicks final summer practice on Thursday. “There’s nothing you can do about it. You just got to contain him.”

Containing Williamson is much easier said than done. While at Duke, Williamson averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. Many of those points came from hard-fought possessions in the paint.

However, RJ Barrett averaged the same amount of points while at Duke. Barrett took a different approach to achieve that number, scoring many points from beyond the arc.

Williamson put their matchup into perspective following the Pelicans final summer practice on Thursday.

“Obviously, it's going to be exciting to be playing against my brother, but I really can’t go into the game thinking of it like that because we’re two different positions,” said Williamson. “So, the only way we’ll be matched up is if it’s a switch or something.”

Their collegiate roles will be much of the same in the NBA, but their supporting cast and the stakes will be much higher. The Pelicans traded away all-star Anthony Davis earlier this summer, and the Knicks missed their chance to sign free-agent Kevin Durant earlier this month.

After a disappointing draft and free agency period, the Knicks look like a lottery team rather than a contender.
At FanDuel, Knicks title futures have gone from +2500 to +18,000.

NEW YORK – In the most interesting offseason in recent NBA history, one of the biggest storylines so far has been the players the New York Knicks didn’t get.

After trading away all-star Kristaps Porzingis to tank for Zion, the Knicks finished with an NBA-worst record of 17-65. But then, New York fell to third in the draft order and only came away with Zion’s college teammate, RJ Barrett.

While the Knicks were never in the running for stars like Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard (who has yet to choose his new club), they openly courted both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

After a heavily-criticized misstep in the recruiting process, however, Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets alongside Irving. This left the Knicks skunked in the franchise-altering superstar department.

To their credit, the Knicks recovered quickly from the ignominy of losing out to their crosstown rivals in Brooklyn. After a brief apology tour, Knicks GM Scott Perry secured six veteran players for a combined $92 million in guaranteed money.

The new Knicks, all signed to short-term deals, include Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, and Taj Gibson.

While that free agency haul is a far cry from fans’ expectations, it’s not an abject disaster, either. That said, the sports betting world hasn’t been kind to the Empire State’s most storied basketball franchise.

Per FanDuel, the Knicks started the offseason at +2500 odds to win the 2019-2020 NBA Finals.

Back then, remember, it seemed that the club would land at least one big star either in the draft, via free agency, or both. Before Durant and Irving announced their move to the Nets, the Knicks were sitting at +4500 on FanDuel’s futures boards.

Now, just days later, those odds have bottomed out at +18,000.

Still, SportsBettingNewYork.com thinks the Knicks might be good for about 10 more wins this season compared to last. Currently, FanDuel has the team’s 2019-2020 over/under at 26.5 games.

Of course, that seems a bit optimistic.
