The Mets are in 9th place for a shot at the Wild Card run to the World Series.

NEW YORK – The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 at SunTrust Park in Atlanta Tuesday night. Star slugger Jeff McNeil, 27, for the Mets sustained an injury in game one of the three-game series, now leaving the team without their best hitter. McNeil was on his way to first base in the ninth inning when he began to hop due to left hamstring pain. With the loss of McNeil and the game, New York’s dream of being in the Wild Card race is about as injured as McNeil’s hamstring.

The Mets have two more games to play against the Braves who are number one in the NL East. Without McNeil to swing in some points, manager Mickey Callaway has to come up with a new strategy for his team in tonight’s game.

“It’s tough,” said Zack Wheeler, a pitcher for the Mets. “He’s a huge part of this team. He brings the fire every day to the field. He’s a ballplayer, and you need those types of guys on the team. You need them in the lineup. It’s unfortunate that that happened. Hopefully, it’s not too serious and he can get back decently quick. We’ll need his bat, that’s for sure.”

Earlier in the season, McNeil experienced the same injury which left him on the Injured List for two weeks. Baseball season is winding down and SportsBettingNewYork knows if New York want to have any shot at a Wild Card, they can’t afford to lose McNeil for what could be the remainder of the season. He has a batting average of .332 with 15 home runs for the 2019 season. In the entire history of the New York Mets, he became the fastest player to reach 200 hits in his career, doing so in about two years’ time.

The Atlanta Braves have all of their star hitters ready for tonight’s lineup. Pitching for the Mets is LHP Steven Matz with a 4.49 ERA and a 7-7 record. The Braves will put LHP Dallas Keuchel on the mound. Keuchel has an ERA of 4.83 and a 3-5 record. Game two of the three-game series starts tonight at 7:20 pm ET on the SNY network. The Atlanta Braves are favored to win with odds of -146. The New York Mets have odds of +126 to win tonight’s game. Hopefully, Callaway has come up with a winning strategy to get his team back on track.

The winner of the Home Run Derby will receive $1 million.

NEW YORK – The 2019 Home Run Derby will have its fair share of competition this year with New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso in the lineup. Alonso has already logged 30 home runs this season so far. He has 68 RBI’s before the All-Star break which is a National Record for a rookie.

Pete Alonso is aiming to accomplish a huge goal for Mets baseball history: winning a Home Run Derby. According to Bovada Sportsbook, Alonso has +400 odds to win the 2019 Home Run Derby.

Alonso has impressed his peers with talent and skill since he was preteen. Mike Friedlein coached Alonso for a few of his preteen years. The older coach noted that Alonso developed tremendous hand-eye coordination and batting speed during these early formative years.

As for Alonso’s odds for the Home Run Derby, he will have stiff competition against first baseman Josh Bell and third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Only one New York Mets player has won the Home Run Derby. Darryl Strawberry was the co-champion in 1986. Outside of the co-champion spot no other Mets player has yet to reach this achievement again.

Alonso may not be the favorite to win the Derby at New York sportsbooks, but he is not fair behind other top contenders. Vladimir Guerrero (+325) and Josh Bell (+300) are slightly more favored to win the Home Run Derby event.

Alonso still has the potential to win the Derby and line bettors pockets with a big win and line his own pockets in the process. The winner receives $1 million.

The 2019 Home Run Derby will take place on July 8, 2019, at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The event starts at 8 pm EST and airs on ESPN.

The New York Yankees are currently set at (+320) betting odds to win the 2019 World Series by online sportsbooks.

The Mets and Yankees have only made 15 deals since 1966.

New York – MLB trade rumors are in full swing as the trade deadline is set at the end of this month. One of the most peculiar of these rumors is the potential for the New York Mets to trade Zach Wheeler to their cross-town rivals in the New York Yankees.

According to a report from Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets would be open to the trade.

“If the Yanks make the strongest offer for Zach Wheeler, the Mets would have no issues sending him across town, according to major league sources… word around Citi Field is that Brodie Van Wagenen has the go-ahead to accept the best offer. If it comes from the Yankees, so be it.”

The Yankees are currently sitting at the top of the AL East with a record of 54-29. They are also currently favored to win the 2019 World Series at (+320) betting odds by popular online bookmaker Bovada. They trail only the Los Angeles Dodgers in terms of those odds.

Any trade from the Mets to the Yankees may anger some Mets fans, especially when the Yankees already seem to have the ball rolling this season. The two teams have only made 15 deals since 1966 with the last big-league trade coming in 2004.

But the chances for the Yankees to go after Wheeler are certainly there. On Tuesday, Wheeler gave up only two runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in a 4-2 victory over the Yankees. Aaron Boone, Manager of the Yankees, spoke well of Wheeler’s performance after the game.

“He’s capable of that,” Boone said. “I thought his splitter-change was really effective. Obviously, the fastball. Didn’t seem like he threw that cutter-slider as much, but he was good. He was filling up the strike zone and we know he’s capable of that when he’s on his game.”

To add to the Yankee's appeal in Wheeler, he is only on a $5.975 million salary that they could surely afford. But what would they be getting for the price?

Wheeler is currently running an ERA of 4.42, but that number is a bit misleading due to the fact that the Mets defense as a whole has been a bit lackluster this season. Other stats give a bit of a clearer picture into his individual output.

Wheeler has struck out 9.71 batters per nine while at the same time walking 2.53. This gives him a relatively impressive K/BB ratio of 3.71.

SportsBettingNewYork thinks the Yankees may also be more inclined to look for pitching help after a dreadful pitching performance in their London series against the Boston Red Sox. While they came out of London victorious they also gave up a combined 21 runs in two games.

Despite the bad performance, the Yankees have still been attracting bets at online sportsbooks to win the 2019 World Series. Acquiring Zach Wheeler from the Mets, in theory, should only help perpetuate the Yankees success this season and keep their odds high.
