2019 NFL Preason: Colts Travel To Buffalo For Week 1

NEW YORK – The Buffalo Bills will be playing their first game of the preseason against the Indianapolis Colts at home. Sean McDermott, head coach of the Bills is ready to see his team in action. He’s stated that he is dedicating one-quarter of tonight’s game to his starting players. The remainder of the game will be played by those seeking a starting position when the regular season begins.

The Bills

Quarterback Josh Allen will be leading the offensive line tonight but there are some serious questions as to who else will be playing. Guards Spencer Long and Jon Feliciano, as well as center Mitch Morse, are all out of commission with injuries. Rookie offensive tackle Cody Ford will be playing guard on the field and depending on his performance, may be moving to that position permanently.

“All we can do is evaluate the combinations that are out there,” said McDermott “We can’t evaluate the combinations that aren’t out there because those are hypothetical at this point and that’s not healthy.”

Rookie defensive tackle Ed Oliver, 21, earned his stripes during camp and landed a spot in the starting position against the Colts. Tight end Lee Smith will be starting with newbie Tommy Sweeney as Tyler Kroft, Jason Croom, and Dawson Knox are all benched with injuries. Should the Bills need a third tight end tonight, they also have rookie Nate Becker who showed promise in camp practices. Becker is thought to be seen as a possible sleeper by the time the season starts.

Wide receiver Robert Foster will be starting tonight. The way he plays will determine whether or not he will have a starting position in the future. He did not have the greatest showing this past summer. The longer he’s in the game today will show if he first string material or not.

The Colts

NEW YORK – Forbes magazine has listed the top fifty franchises worldwide in terms of their worth. Seven of their top ten teams are within the United States.

Reigning in supreme are the Dallas Cowboys who have an estimated worth of $5 billion. It’s no surprise that the Cowboys are ranked number one as they’re known as “America’s Team” and their fans are diehard, regardless of their season records. Last year, the Cowboys finished first in the NFC East with a record of 10-6. They gained access to postseason play and edged out the Seattle Seahawks for the Wild Card 24-22. For the NFC Divisional game against the Lost Angeles Rams, they lost 22-30.

The Other Teams In The Top Ten

The New York Yankees clinched the second spot on the list with a worth of $4.6 billion dollars. Like the Cowboys, the Yankees have the love of their fanbase in their corner. They are known as “America’s Team” when it comes to baseball. With 27 World Series titles and 40 AL Pennants, they are definitely a talented bunch, no matter what era they’re in. Sports betting was legalized in the state of New York in 2013 for their commercial casinos.
The four casinos that are allowed to offer sports wagers currently do not.

NEW YORK - When it comes to wagering on sports in the state of New York, the wheels have been in motion since 2013. Six years ago the state signed Senate Bill S5883, to enable sports betting to take place in any one of the four commercial casinos. This legalization would fully be enforced once the federal ban known as PASPA was lifted, which it was in 2018.

Since then, the wheels have been in slow motion. In January, a set of rules and regulations were drawn up and approved by the New York State Gaming Commission on an introductory basis. These rules and regulations were not set in stone and could be changed if need be. The regulations were lawfully accepted in June 2019 to allow commercial casinos in the state of New York to apply for their sports betting licenses.

The rules and regulations that were cemented into law prohibit residents from betting on any college sports from schools within the state as well as any outside college event if that event will be taking place in New York. Secondly, bettors are only allowed to place bets within the walls of the four commercial casinos or the seven Indian casinos should they participate in sports wagering at their establishments. All land-based sportsbooks will not be offering a mobile aspect to their sports betting platforms as mobile betting is still prohibited.

Where To Bet On Sports In New York

Four commercial casinos in New York have the ability to apply for licenses to offer sports wagering at their facilities. These casinos are the Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols, NY, Resort World Catskills in Monticello, NY, del Lago Resort and Casino in Waterloo, NY, and Rivers Casino and Resort Schenectady in Schenectady, NY. Governor Andrew Cuomo has declined to sign off on legal mobile sports betting for the state. No real reason has been given as to why he does not want to legalize mobile wagers. The matter will not be brought to the House again until the 2020 session. However, member of the New York Senate, Joseph Addabbo Jr believes that the mobile aspect of sports betting is crucial.

“Experiences in other states have demonstrated that implementing sports betting without a mobile component leaves those states where people cannot wager with their phones or other devices at a competitive disadvantage,” Addabbo said in a statement. “Ultimately, I hope the Governor will choose to embrace the great benefits that sports betting, including the mobile component, will bring to New York in terms of employment, additional funding for education, addressing illegal gambling, and ensuring our competitiveness with other states.”

NEW YORK – The New York Giants have been on a roller coaster of seasons ever since their Super Bowl win almost ten years ago. Last year, they won one out of their first eight games, despite adding new coach Pat Shurmur. In 2017, they went 3-13 for the season while 2018 gave them a record of 5-11. Under the direction of their new coach, they were able to make a slight improvement.

Pat Shurmur was hired, not because he had a stellar record as a coach but because he was known to make miracles when it comes to the offensive line. The Giants could use a miracle when it comes to their offense. Eli Manning is still their main quarterback, but they just obtained the first round draft pick, Daniel Jones. If Manning doesn’t show up to the game ready to play, he may be benched early on in the season for Jones.

What Will The Giants Look Like In 2019?

Losing Odell Beckham Jr was a huge blow for the Giants as Manning’s record is better when he played with Beckham than when he’s played with any other player. Beckham went to the Browns after becoming a free agent.

While quarterback Daniel Jones was a huge pick in the draft, he may be too green to carry an entire franchise. In truth, no one knows how Jones will play when he gets his chance on the field. The college game is a lot different than that of the NFL stage so Jones will need to learn quickly how to adapt and adapt well.

Running back Saquon Barkley had a tremendous rookie season in 2018. He went 721 yards for 91 receptions and 4 touchdowns with zero fumbles in his first year. Barkley is expected to be the shining star for the Giants offense for the second year in a row.

This could be seen as the season of rebuilding for the New York Giants. The only player they have that is also one of the oldest quarterbacks in the game is Eli Manning. When asked in December by reporters about the 2019 season, Manning said he wasn’t sure about coming back.

"Whenever you get to year 15, these things about your future come up," said Manning.

The rest of the roster looks to be a bunch of unfamiliar faces, even though some have been with the team for a few years. The question is, do we let the fresh-faced quarterback grow with the new team or do we try to fit in our older quarterback that’s almost out the door with the new squad?
