NEW YORK – The New York Jets have just signed linebacker Stephone Anthony, 27, after suffering the loss of linebacker Avery Williamson to a season-ending ACL tear. Williamson sustained the injury in the second game of the preseason against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Adam Gase blames himself for losing Williamson.

“Looking back on it, hindsight is 20/20. I wish I would have gotten him out of there a series earlier. But I've talked with him and it's on me. I'm the one that has to make that call and get him out of there,” said Gase. “But we didn't and that's a shame because he was having a good camp.”

In an effort to rectify what he believes is his fault, he has chosen to sign Stephone Anthony to take Williamson’s place. Gase has coached Anthony in the past during his time with the Dolphins. In July, he was signed to the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent and played in their preseason games only to be cut from the team three days before the Jets matchup that would take out Williamson.

Stephone Anthony will get his first action as a member of the New York Jets on Saturday in their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are the favorite to win with odds of -155. New York has odds of +135 to come out with the W. The game starts at 7:30 pm ET on Saturday, August 24th. It will be broadcast in limited areas on the CBS network.

NEW YORK - Tight end Evan Engram, 24, of the New York Giants is ready to play this season. The Giants suffered a huge loss in Odell Beckham Jr. and they’re hoping that Engram can fill that void. This will be Engram’s third season with the franchise and the third year of his professional career.

Engram was held out from postseason practices due to hamstring issues that plagued him during the spring. The Giants did not want to take any chances for an injury during preseason practices, having Engram sit them out. However, the tight end believes he is in the best playing shape of his life.

“I feel myself kind of growing into a bigger leadership role, bigger role in the offense, I’m just excited. I haven’t felt this good in a while,” said Engram. “Being professional, taking care of my body, it’s making a huge difference.”

In the 26 games he’s played professionally, he’s made 26 touchdowns and had 109 pass completions for a total of 1,299 yards. Engram, standing tall at 6-foot-3 and weighing in at 240lbs has realized the importance of taking care of his body so that he is able to play at maximum capacity. Changing both his sleep and eating habits have improved his game immensely.

While he has been sitting out of team practices, he has maintained his own exercise regimen alongside them. Engram has always been great when it came to running the field but he’s now acquired better skills when it comes to blocking that he hopes to display during the season.

“It’s crazy how much better I have gotten at the blocking game," said Engram.

The Giants see great potential in Engram and plan to use it to their advantage this season. As for Engram, his game plan is to stay healthy and keep his head in the game. Giants Beat The Jets In Preseason Opener

NEW YORK – The team with the better season last year by all of one game came out victorious last night. The New York Giants beat the New York Jets 31-22 in the preseason opener. The Jets were favored to win but the Giants came ready to play.

Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, 22, made a mistake during the first play of his professional career. Jones failed to signal for the blocking scheme and running back Wayne Gallman was left 1-on-1 with a defensive end from the Jets. Despite that mistake, he was able to score a touchdown during that drive with a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Bennie Fowler in the endzone.

Even with the mistake involving Gallman, the running back thinks Jones’ performance was terrific.

"I'm impressed with everything. There's not an actual word I'd put on it," said Gallman. "But he's gonna be a great one. He's very poised, very smart — you can tell by his eyes, he comes ready to play and that's something you like to see in your teammates."

Giants wide receiver Reggie White Jr also had a big game. The 23-year-old went 60 yards with 4 catches. The stadium erupted in chants of “Reg-gie!” because of the rookie’s performance. This may or may not have started due to White Jr having more than 50 friends and family attend his first NFL game.

The Giants went on to beat the Jets by 9 points. With Jones playing so well, head coach Pat Shurmur was asked whether Eli Manning would still be starting quarterback during the regular season.

"Listen, we’re not going to play the what-ifs. I would say this: Nothing has changed," said Shurmur. "This was the first game. I expect Daniel to play well. I expect him to go out and improve, and for the people that don't know him, impress them. Our expectations for him have not changed ... our situation has not changed."

The Giants will face the Chicago Bears on Friday, August 16th at 7:30 pm ET. The game will be aired on the NFLN channel.

The Jets

The beginning of the preseason opener commenced with Jets starting players like quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jamison Crowder. Both the offense and defense showed their skills on the field. By the second quarter, the second-string players which included quarterback Trevor Siemian held their own. Buffalo comes in as the third-favorite in the division to take the title. The New England Patriots are the clear leader amongst the AFC East teams, having won the previous 10 titles. But with another year under Tom Brady’s belt and the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, the Pats aren’t as deadly as years’ past.

The Bills will still need to find a way to win, as they are 73-43-1 against the Patriots all-time, including an 0-5 record in the last few meetings.

The New York Jets are second to win the division but hired a coach in Adam Gase who has a career losing record. His sole playoff appearance came in his first season with the Miami Dolphins but led his team to a diminishing record both years after.

The Bills do hold the all-time lead over the Jets, sitting with a 62-55 record but spent the majority of the 2010s splitting the regular season victories.

As for the Dolphins, we’ll just leave this fun fact: they are last in the league (odds-wise) to make the playoffs this year.

Last year, they won one out of their first eight games, despite adding new coach Pat Shurmur. In 2017, they went 3-13 for the season while 2018 gave them a record of 5-11. Under the direction of their new coach, they were able to make a slight improvement.

Pat Shurmur was hired, not because he had a stellar record as a coach but because he was known to make miracles when it comes to the offensive line. The Giants could use a miracle when it comes to their offense. Eli Manning is still their main quarterback, but they just obtained the first round draft pick, Daniel Jones. If Manning doesn’t show up to the game ready to play, he may be benched early on in the season for Jones.

What Will The Giants Look Like In 2019?

Losing Odell Beckham Jr was a huge blow for the Giants as Manning’s record is better when he played with Beckham than when he’s played with any other player. Beckham went to the Browns after becoming a free agent.

While quarterback Daniel Jones was a huge pick in the draft, he may be too green to carry an entire franchise. In truth, no one knows how Jones will play when he gets his chance on the field. The college game is a lot different than that of the NFL stage so Jones will need to learn quickly how to adapt and adapt well.

Running back Saquon Barkley had a tremendous rookie season in 2018. He went 721 yards for 91 receptions and 4 touchdowns with zero fumbles in his first year. Barkley is expected to be the shining star for the Giants offense for the second year in a row.

This could be seen as the season of rebuilding for the New York Giants. The only player they have that is also one of the oldest quarterbacks in the game is Eli Manning. When asked in December by reporters about the 2019 season, Manning said he wasn’t sure about coming back.

"Whenever you get to year 15, these things about your future come up," said Manning.

The rest of the roster looks to be a bunch of unfamiliar faces, even though some have been with the team for a few years. The question is, do we let the fresh-faced quarterback grow with the new team or do we try to fit in our older quarterback that’s almost out the door with the new squad?

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The new-look New York Jets are looking for some newfound respect, but they know they’ve got to earn it.

With a new GM and head coach, a revamped roster, and nary an old veteran on the team (only two current players are over 30 years old), the club feels settled in for a quick reversal of fortunes.

While the Jets have missed the playoffs every year since 2010 and went 4-12 last year after a pair of 5-11 campaigns, there is ample reason for optimism. It can’t get much worse, at least.

According to four-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley, being an underdog on the field (and the betting boards) is nothing to shy away from.

“Now that we’ve got a new little mix-up, got some new people around and some new faces, we’re all eager and we’re all ready. We know the whole NFL is sleeping on the Jets, so we’re ready to prove them wrong.”

In addition to adding Mosley, the Jets also landed Le’Veon Bell this offseason. A potential franchise-altering running back like Bell has Jets fans looking at their young club’s massive upside. The team also expects big things out of second-year QB Sam Darnold.

Removing the home-town bias from the lines doesn’t serve the Jets much better on the boards, but it might entice more bettors to go big on New York.

At Bovada and most competing offshore sportsbooks, the Jets are trending at +650 to win the AFC East, +4000 to win the AFC Championship, and +8000 to win the Super Bowl.
