Currently, the Giants are underdogs in 12 of 16 contests.

The Giants’ Week 6 matchup against the Patriots offers the season’s best payout (+390).

NEW YORK – If you’re a New York Giants fan and don’t have a betting account at FanDuel, you’re missing out. Right now, several months before the NFL season even kicks off, FanDuel has odds up for every single Giants game on the schedule.

For sportsbooks, that kind of lead time is unprecedented. At most books (both onshore and off), you can currently find odds on games for Week 1 of the upcoming campaign, but that’s it.

At FanDuel, you can wager on spreads and straights for all 16 Giants contests in the regular season.

This makes sense, of course. FanDuel is the in-house bookmaker at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ. This is the same complex that houses MetLife Stadium, where the G-Men play their home games.

Of course, the Jets play their home games at MetLife, too, and they aren’t getting the same front-and-center treatment on the odds boards. This shows that despite both teams calling The Big M home, the Giants are leaps and bounds more popular in the region.

While the Giants aren’t expected to compete for a division title (+1000), conference crown (+3400), or NFL championship (+7000) this year, their individual regular season matchups have some moneymaking opportunities for the savvy bettor.

Straight up, the Giants are currently underdogs in 12 of their 16 scheduled games. The biggest potential payouts on the board can be found in Week 1 against the Cowboys (+250), Week 6 against the Patriots (+390), Week 11 against the Bears (+270), and Week 13 against the Eagles (+300).

On the other side, as favorites, the Giants are currently trending most strongly in Week 7 against the Cardinals (-210) and Week 14 against the Dolphins (-235).

It’s important to note that at this early stage, all of FanDuel’s Giant spreads have reasonable prices of between +100 (even) and -115, with most settling in at the industry standard -110.

If the outlandishly high juice attached to Giants games at the FanDuel sportsbook last season is any indication, these odds are likely to get a whole lot worse once the season actually gets underway.

Additionally, there is no word as to whether or not these odds will stay posted once the season starts, as this could be a promotional move to keep bettor interest high in the lead-up to the 2019-2020 campaign.

As always, if you see a line you like, SportsBettingNewYork.com says take it now, because it could be gone tomorrow.

At FanDuel, Knicks title futures have gone from +2500 to +18,000.

NEW YORK – In the most interesting offseason in recent NBA history, one of the biggest storylines so far has been the players the New York Knicks didn’t get.

After trading away all-star Kristaps Porzingis to tank for Zion, the Knicks finished with an NBA-worst record of 17-65. But then, New York fell to third in the draft order and only came away with Zion’s college teammate, RJ Barrett.

While the Knicks were never in the running for stars like Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard (who has yet to choose his new club), they openly courted both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

After a heavily-criticized misstep in the recruiting process, however, Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets alongside Irving. This left the Knicks skunked in the franchise-altering superstar department.

To their credit, the Knicks recovered quickly from the ignominy of losing out to their crosstown rivals in Brooklyn. After a brief apology tour, Knicks GM Scott Perry secured six veteran players for a combined $92 million in guaranteed money.

The new Knicks, all signed to short-term deals, include Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, and Taj Gibson.

While that free agency haul is a far cry from fans’ expectations, it’s not an abject disaster, either. That said, the sports betting world hasn’t been kind to the Empire State’s most storied basketball franchise.

Per FanDuel, the Knicks started the offseason at +2500 odds to win the 2019-2020 NBA Finals.

Back then, remember, it seemed that the club would land at least one big star either in the draft, via free agency, or both. Before Durant and Irving announced their move to the Nets, the Knicks were sitting at +4500 on FanDuel’s futures boards.

Now, just days later, those odds have bottomed out at +18,000.

Still, SportsBettingNewYork.com thinks the Knicks might be good for about 10 more wins this season compared to last. Currently, FanDuel has the team’s 2019-2020 over/under at 26.5 games.

Of course, that seems a bit optimistic.

What are the odds that the Knicks get another lottery pick in next year’s draft?

The Jets have +650 odds to win the AFC East and +3400 odds to win the AFC outright.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The new-look New York Jets are looking for some newfound respect, but they know they’ve got to earn it.

With a new GM and head coach, a revamped roster, and nary an old veteran on the team (only two current players are over 30 years old), the club feels settled in for a quick reversal of fortunes.

While the Jets have missed the playoffs every year since 2010 and went 4-12 last year after a pair of 5-11 campaigns, there is ample reason for optimism. It can’t get much worse, at least.

According to four-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley, being an underdog on the field (and the betting boards) is nothing to shy away from.

“Now that we’ve got a new little mix-up, got some new people around and some new faces, we’re all eager and we’re all ready. We know the whole NFL is sleeping on the Jets, so we’re ready to prove them wrong.”

In addition to adding Mosley, the Jets also landed Le’Veon Bell this offseason. A potential franchise-altering running back like Bell has Jets fans looking at their young club’s massive upside. The team also expects big things out of second-year QB Sam Darnold.

Still, sports bettors are unconvinced. Gang Green will have to show them something on the field before these bettors are willing to reciprocate with too much of green of their own.

Right now, FanDuel – the house sportsbook at The Meadowlands, where the Jets play their home games – have pretty long odds on the home team. The Jets are currently sitting at +650 to win the AFC East, +3400 to win the AFC Championship, and +6000 to win the Super Bowl.

The Jets, who haven’t made the playoffs in nearly a decade, currently have +320 odds to earn a postseason berth and -440 odds to miss out. Their season win total at FanDuel is set at 7 games, with the over pulling -160 odds and the under settling in at +135.

Removing the home-town bias from the lines doesn’t serve the Jets much better on the boards, but it might entice more bettors to go big on New York.

At Bovada and most competing offshore sportsbooks, the Jets are trending at +650 to win the AFC East, +4000 to win the AFC Championship, and +8000 to win the Super Bowl.

SportsBettingNewYork.com thinks if you’re big on the Green & White this season, offshore betting sites are where you want to place your wagers.

Of course, if you’re big on green this season, you might not want to touch the Jets at all.

Joseph Addabbo, Jr.’s SB 17 and Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow’s AB 6113.

Last week, the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) approved the state’s tentative sports betting regulations. These form the regulatory framework for New York’s legal betting industry.

However, the pastime is currently limited to New York’s four upstate commercial casino venues.

Addabbo’s and Pretlow’s bills would change that, legalizing sports wagering via a variety of different avenues. Such avenues include mobile sites and apps, tribal casinos, racetracks, off-track betting sites, and even professional sports stadiums.

While the bills face a time-crunch in the statehouse, it’s not a sure thing they’d be signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) even if passed. This is true whether or not the bills come across his desk supported by a seemingly veto-proof majority.

A veto override would require polling after the current session adjourns. This can often be a difficult, tenuous process.

Cuomo’s administration is already on record stating that any mobile betting allowance or extra brick-and-mortar rollout constitutes a gambling expansion.

Such a gambling expansion, argues the governor’s office, would require a voter referendum.

In that case, the earliest that New York bettors could see statewide online sportsbooks legalized would be November 2020, with a 2021 launch.

At the very least, fans of New York sports betting can take solace in the fact that they’ll be able to wager on sports at the four upstate venues. These sites’ physical sportsbooks are already under construction and should be open in time for the start of the NFL season in September.

ALBANY, N.Y. – In the runup to the official launch of New York’s sportsbook operations in its four upstate commercial casinos, there have been two interesting and potentially impactful developments in the New York statehouse.

Both of these issues have been raised by the state’s chief legislative gambling advocate, Sen. Joseph Addabbo, Jr. (D-15). Addabbo is the chairman of the Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering.

Addabbo’s gaming expansion legislation, SB 17, is currently being debated in the New York State Assembly.

The bill has been thoroughly amended in cooperation with Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow (D-89), and it would confirm the rights of New York’s three casino-operating tribal nations to offer sports wagering at their properties in the state.

Additionally, the proposal could lead to statewide online wagering launching earlier than previously thought.

How Many New York Casinos Could Offer Sports Betting Under SB 17?

Addabbo’s new legislation would enumerate the existing compacted rights of the Seneca Nation of New York, the Oneida Indian Nation, and St. Regis Mohawk to offer sports wagering products.

These three tribes oversee Class III gaming operations in the state, which allows them to effectively provide any casino amusement that their commercial counterparts are allowed to offer. This now includes sports betting.

Under SB 17, the number of sports wagering venues available to the public would expand from the four upstate venues to at least 12 throughout the state. If sports wagering is also allowed at Class II venues, this number could climb to more than 20 physical locales where New York sports bettors could place wagers.

Addabbo’s bill seeks to acknowledge and render into specific law the above tribes’ rights to offer sports wagering, though it takes things one step further by throwing in online sports wagering, as well.

Is Online Betting Really In The Cards?

While the above is somewhat of a formality given the New York tribes’ inherent sports wagering rights, Addabbo’s bill faces its primary hurdles in its application of online sports betting.

Ever since the four upstate commercial venues were built with sports wagering in mind, the pastime has been viewed as an economic booster.

The Resorts World Catskills (Monticello), Tioga Downs Casino Resort (Nichols), Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady, and the del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo) are all underperforming financially, and sports betting exclusivity has been viewed as a life-preserver by many in the legislature.

As such, New York lawmakers have been largely reticent to entertain statewide online sports betting at this time, as such could cannibalize much-needed traffic to these struggling venues.

Thus, conventional wisdom has held that online sports betting would not be broached by the State Assembly for at least another year or two.

Nevertheless, Addabbo’s proposal would authorize online wagering immediately, and the commercial and tribal venues in the state would each be empowered to offer their own online books to bettors throughout the state.

Geo-fencing technology would be used to bar Internet-based wagering in tribal exclusivity zones if any tribe declines to offer the pastime to their casino’s patrons.

Today’s Hearing On SB 17

The issues addressed by Addabbo’s revised bill are scheduled to be debated later today.

No representatives from the Cuomo administration are expected to attend the hearing, despite the scheduled appearances of major players throughout the state’s sporting and gaming industries, including reps from the NBA, PGA, NFLPA, New York gambling venues, local tribes, and others.

Cuomo officials have suggested that their lack of attendance is a scheduling issue and not an indication of bias for or against Addabbo’s legislation. However, it is known that Gov. Cuomo is personally against the idea of widely-expanded sports wagering.

Jason Conwall, a Cuomo spokesperson, reiterated the state’s executive position on the matter.

“We have constitutional concerns on this issue that we have raised for nearly a year, and our position remains the same. We will review the revised bill.”

Gov. Cuomo has long insisted that any online gaming expansion would require approval via voter referendum. Many state lawmakers dispute this interpretation, and today’s hearing on SB 17 should help clarify where the legislature generally stands on the issue of sports betting in New York.
