The Standstill Continues On New York Mobile Sports Betting

Sports Betting USA held a conference in NYC this past Tuesday where legal mobile sports betting for the state of New York was a topic.
New York currently has four casinos in the upstate area where residents may wager on sporting events.
Many legislators in the state are pushing for legalization as so many residents are traveling to New Jersey to use their mobile platform, allowing the Garden State to benefit in revenue.

NEW YORK – The standstill on the issue of New York mobile sports betting continues. In June, four upstate casinos received approval to open up legal sportsbooks, however, lawmakers were never sold on the idea of residents using their phones to place wagers on the games. One person, in general, has qualms on mobile sports betting and that person is basically the decision-maker himself, Governor Andrew Cuomo.

“Sports betting, first of all, does not make you that much money,” said Cuomo earlier this year. “They raised something like $13 million — $13 million is a rounding error in our state budget. I am not a fan of when you can bet anytime from your cellphone.”

Legislation for the state of New York opens back up in January where there is hope that changes can be made to the sports betting bill to involve mobile wagers. Cuomo maintains that this type of wager is not constitutional and for it to even be considered, a change in the constitution needs to be made. However, Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr knows mobile sports wagers will become a reality for the state at some point.

“It’s not a question of if; it’s when,” said Addabbo Jr. “It’s going to happen. People want to bet in New York. They don’t want to get in the car and drive two hours upstate, and they’d rather not get in the car and go over the bridge to New Jersey, but they’re doing that now.”

New Yorkers have been crossing the bridge into New Jersey and stopping at rest stops to place their mobile sports bets. While talks should begin in January, a report that should’ve been out by now listing the good and bad of making mobile sports betting legal will not be coming out until April 2020. While there is no telling what the report will say, Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow is sure it will be in favor of launching the mobile platform.

“I know what the report’s going to say: It’s going to say, ‘Do it,’” Pretlow said.

It is estimated that a minimum of 30% of New Jersey’s mobile sports betting business is coming from residents of New York. As it stands, the Garden State gets 80% of all of their wagers on sporting events through the use of cellphone applications. If in 2020 New York sports betting is apporved, they would become the biggest state in the US to offer sports wagers from every available platform.

Yankees Considered Close Favorites To Win World Series

The American League Division Series (ALDS) begins on October 4 for the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins were knocked out of postseason runs when they’ve played the Yankees on four separate occasions; in 2003, 2004, 2009, and 2010.
Minnesota has odds of +1300 to win the World Series, a huge difference from the odds awarded to New York.

NEW YORK – The New York Yankees (103-59) could take home a World Series title if bookies have any say over the matter. New York is currently holding odds of +350 to win the Championship. Coming in first are the Houston Astros (107-55) with odds of +190 and then the Los Angeles Dodgers (106-56) with +250 at NY sportsbooks. The Yankees have not won a World Series Championship since 2009.

New York clinched their division title in the AL East, even with a season where 30 separate players were on the Injured List at some point during the year. On their trek to the Series, they first must play the Minnesota Twins (101-61) of the AL Central division to seal a chance at the American League Pennant. The Yankees and the Twins will participate in a round of five games. Whichever team wins three games first will move on to the AL Pennant championship.

However, it shows what a formidable opponent Minnesota is for the dynasty. Aaron Boone, the head coach for the Yankees has said of the July meetings that the Twins are a beast of a team. The Twins refer to the Yankees as a dragon they have to slay. The series between the two looks to be one of beasts and dragons. And you thought the “Game of Thrones” was over.

“We’ve got to play our best baseball. Period. End of story,’’ said Brian Cashman, Yankees’ General Manager. “Do everything in our power to find a way to get past them. We’re really excited for the opportunity. Our first step in this process was to win the division so we didn’t have to deal with the wild-card issue. That’s Phase I. Phase II is to try to find a way to get through this series. They happen to be our opponent and they’ll be a handful.’’

With the New York Yankees having such favorable odds when it comes to the World Series compared to the Minnesota Twins, they could very well be the first team to win three out of five and advance to the Pennant series. Game One starts on October 4 in the Bronx. Based on their July meetings, it’s sure to be a slugfest you won’t want to miss.

The Cleveland Browns Take On The New York Jets Sans Darnold

NEW YORK – Can the Cleveland Browns beat the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium for Monday Night Football? The Jets will be playing without their star quarterback, Sam Darnold who could be out for up to a month with mono. Taking his place will be 27-year old quarterback Trevor Siemian, who has started 24 games, winning 13 of them.

“He’s not a panic guy, he’s got a coolness about him and when things change at that position sometimes other guys can panic a little,” said Jets’ head coach Adam Gase. “But when you have a guy that is really calm and steady, then that calms everybody else down.”

Siemian didn’t see any playing action all of last season so he has been a bit out of practice when it comes to live gameplay. Along with Darnold, the Jets are also out a linebacker in C.J. Mosely, who has a groin injury. Both teams had bad starts to the season, with the Browns losing to the Tennessee Titans 43-13 and the Jets giving up their lead to the Buffalo Bills, losing 17-16.

Despite the ending score, the Browns played well from a defensive standpoint against the Titans. They were able to hold Tennessee when it came to third downs, only allowing them to advance two out of ten times. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr, 26, will be making his return to New York, but in a different jersey. OBJ has a kind of magic when it comes to Monday night football. In his last five years in the league, he has had 51 completed catches for 755 yards with a total of seven touchdowns, all during Monday night football games.

With all of New York’s injuries and the Browns' poor performance during their season debut, the odds within a possession between the teams. The Browns have a spread set at (-7, -115) while the Jets are coming into the game with a line of (+7, -105). Moneyline wagers are favoring Cleveland with odds of -300 and the underdog Jets sit at +250. NEW YORK – The New York Jets have just signed linebacker Stephone Anthony, 27, after suffering the loss of linebacker Avery Williamson to a season-ending ACL tear. Williamson sustained the injury in the second game of the preseason against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Adam Gase blames himself for losing Williamson.

“Looking back on it, hindsight is 20/20. I wish I would have gotten him out of there a series earlier. But I've talked with him and it's on me. I'm the one that has to make that call and get him out of there,” said Gase. “But we didn't and that's a shame because he was having a good camp.”

In an effort to rectify what he believes is his fault, he has chosen to sign Stephone Anthony to take Williamson’s place. While Anthony has had 149 career tackles since 2015.

Anthony played with the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons, recording 22 tackles in 24 game appearances. With the signing of Anthony came the departure of safety Santos Ramirez.

Gase has coached Anthony in the past during his time with the Dolphins. In July, he was signed to the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent and played in their preseason games only to be cut from the team three days before the Jets matchup that would take out Williamson.

Stephone Anthony will get his first action as a member of the New York Jets on Saturday in their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are the favorite to win with odds of -155. NEW YORK - Tight end Evan Engram, 24, of the New York Giants is ready to play this season. The Giants suffered a huge loss in Odell Beckham Jr. and they’re hoping that Engram can fill that void. This will be Engram’s third season with the franchise and the third year of his professional career.

Engram was held out from postseason practices due to hamstring issues that plagued him during the spring. The Giants did not want to take any chances for an injury during preseason practices, having Engram sit them out. However, the tight end believes he is in the best playing shape of his life.

“I feel myself kind of growing into a bigger leadership role, bigger role in the offense, I’m just excited. I haven’t felt this good in a while,” said Engram. “Being professional, taking care of my body, it’s making a huge difference.”

In the 26 games he’s played professionally, he’s made 26 touchdowns and had 109 pass completions for a total of 1,299 yards. Engram, standing tall at 6-foot-3 and weighing in at 240lbs has realized the importance of taking care of his body so that he is able to play at maximum capacity. Changing both his sleep and eating habits have improved his game immensely.

While he has been sitting out of team practices, he has maintained his own exercise regimen alongside them. Engram has always been great when it came to running the field but he’s now acquired better skills when it comes to blocking that he hopes to display during the season.

“It’s crazy how much better I have gotten at the blocking game," said Engram.

The Giants see great potential in Engram and plan to use it to their advantage this season. As for Engram, his game plan is to stay healthy and keep his head in the game. New York Sports Day is a day to celebrate all the teams in the New York area that have smaller platforms than that of the bigger professional teams.
Saratoga Race Course will host as a kickoff to their Travers Stakes Racing weekend.
Mascots from the various teams will be at the event for the fans to meet.

NEW YORK – The Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will be the venue for the celebratory New York Sports Day on August 21st. The event will be hosted by the New York Racing Association (NYRA) with festivities being held from 11 am- 5 pm Wednesday with a free giveaway of a Saratoga beach towel for visitors.

"The passion we witness each day from our fans is certainly part of what makes Saratoga such a special place. We look forward to highlighting nearby teams and athletic programs that benefit from the same enthusiasm of Capital Region fans who make this area such an exciting place for sports," said Will Alempijevic, the Director of Guest Service for the NYRA. "We encourage everyone to join us as we kick off Travers Week with a day dedicated to celebrating local sports."

Head coach Carmen Maciariello for the Siena Saints basketball team and head coach Dave Smith of the RPI Engineers hockey team will be in attendance for a meet and greet of all their fans. This part of the event will be held in the Coca-Cola Saratoga Pavilion. The Pavilion itself will serve as an exhibit for all sports programs and regional affiliated teams, offering free tickets and other goods to visitors. Information for each team and the details of their seasons will also be provided.

Other recognized teams that will be represented during New York Sports Day will include the University of Albany Great Danes, the Adirondack Thunder, and the Tri-City ValleyCats. However, the team everyone wants to see is the Albany Empire, an arena football team out of Albany that just won the ArenaBowl XXXII against the Philadelphia Soul 45-27. Not only will fans have a chance to meet the team but they will also get to see the championship trophy on display. The New York Mets Losing Sight Of Wild Card Chances

The Atlanta Braves are in first place in the NL East with a 71-50 record, while the Mets are tied for third with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Mets are in 9th place for a shot at the Wild Card run to the World Series.

NEW YORK – The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 at SunTrust Park in Atlanta Tuesday night. Star slugger Jeff McNeil, 27, for the Mets sustained an injury in game one of the three-game series, now leaving the team without their best hitter. McNeil was on his way to first base in the ninth inning when he began to hop due to left hamstring pain. With the loss of McNeil and the game, New York’s dream of being in the Wild Card race is about as injured as McNeil’s hamstring.

The Mets have two more games to play against the Braves who are number one in the NL East. Without McNeil to swing in some points, manager Mickey Callaway has to come up with a new strategy for his team in tonight’s game.

“It’s tough,” said Zack Wheeler, a pitcher for the Mets. “He’s a huge part of this team. He brings the fire every day to the field. He’s a ballplayer, and you need those types of guys on the team. You need them in the lineup. It’s unfortunate that that happened. Hopefully, it’s not too serious and he can get back decently quick. We’ll need his bat, that’s for sure.”

Earlier in the season, McNeil experienced the same injury which left him on the Injured List for two weeks. Giants Beat The Jets In Preseason Opener

The rivalry teams will meet again in November during the regular season.

NEW YORK – The team with the better season last year by all of one game came out victorious last night. The New York Giants beat the New York Jets 31-22 in the preseason opener. The Jets were favored to win but the Giants came ready to play.

Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, 22, made a mistake during the first play of his professional career. Jones failed to signal for the blocking scheme and running back Wayne Gallman was left 1-on-1 with a defensive end from the Jets. Despite that mistake, he was able to score a touchdown during that drive with a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Bennie Fowler in the endzone.

Even with the mistake involving Gallman, the running back thinks Jones’ performance was terrific.

"I'm impressed with everything. There's not an actual word I'd put on it," said Gallman. "But he's gonna be a great one. He's very poised, very smart — you can tell by his eyes, he comes ready to play and that's something you like to see in your teammates."

Giants wide receiver Reggie White Jr also had a big game. The 23-year-old went 60 yards with 4 catches. The stadium erupted in chants of “Reg-gie!” because of the rookie’s performance. This may or may not have started due to White Jr having more than 50 friends and family attend his first NFL game.

The Giants went on to beat the Jets by 9 points. With Jones playing so well, head coach Pat Shurmur was asked whether Eli Manning would still be starting quarterback during the regular season.

"Listen, we’re not going to play the what-ifs. I would say this: Nothing has changed," said Shurmur. "This was the first game. I expect Daniel to play well. I expect him to go out and improve, and for the people that don't know him, impress them. Our expectations for him have not changed ... our situation has not changed."

The Giants will face the Chicago Bears on Friday, August 16th at 7:30 pm ET. The game will be aired on the NFLN channel.

The Jets

The beginning of the preseason opener commenced with Jets starting players like quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jamison Crowder. Both the offense and defense showed their skills on the field. By the second quarter, the second-string players which included quarterback Trevor Siemian held their own. SportsBettingNewYork.com thinks both the Giants and the Jets were equally matched in skillset on the field resulting in a halftime score of 17-15 Giants.

The second half of the game was dominated by the Giants. Despite both teams having their third and fourth string athletes playing, the Giants came out on top as the Jets lost all the fuel in their engines. The game ended with a score of 31-22. The New York Jets will play the Atlanta Falcons in their second preseason game on August 15th. The game begins at 7:30 pm ET and can be streamed on CBS.

2019 NFL Preason: Colts Travel To Buffalo For Week 1

Both the Indianapolis Colts and the Buffalo Bills have many players out with injuries.
In 2018, the Colts had a 10-6 record for the season.

NEW YORK – The Buffalo Bills will be playing their first game of the preseason against the Indianapolis Colts at home. Sean McDermott, head coach of the Bills is ready to see his team in action. He’s stated that he is dedicating one-quarter of tonight’s game to his starting players. The remainder of the game will be played by those seeking a starting position when the regular season begins.

The Bills

Quarterback Josh Allen will be leading the offensive line tonight but there are some serious questions as to who else will be playing. Guards Spencer Long and Jon Feliciano, as well as center Mitch Morse, are all out of commission with injuries. Rookie offensive tackle Cody Ford will be playing guard on the field and depending on his performance, may be moving to that position permanently.

“All we can do is evaluate the combinations that are out there,” said McDermott “We can’t evaluate the combinations that aren’t out there because those are hypothetical at this point and that’s not healthy.”

Rookie defensive tackle Ed Oliver, 21, earned his stripes during camp and landed a spot in the starting position against the Colts. Tight end Lee Smith will be starting with newbie Tommy Sweeney as Tyler Kroft, Jason Croom, and Dawson Knox are all benched with injuries. Should the Bills need a third tight end tonight, they also have rookie Nate Becker who showed promise in camp practices. Becker is thought to be seen as a possible sleeper by the time the season starts.

Wide receiver Robert Foster will be starting tonight. The way he plays will determine whether or not he will have a starting position in the future. He did not have the greatest showing this past summer. The longer he’s in the game today will show if he first string material or not.

The Colts

With so many players out with injuries including their quarterback Andrew Luck, SportsBettingNewYork.com knows the Colts field of players will be a sea of new faces. Leading the team tonight is quarterback Jacoby Brissett, 26. Brissett needs to showcase his skills tonight as well as in the entire preseason because he will be a free agent when the season is over. Luck’s calf injury is expected to be healed by the time the regular season begins so this could be Brissett’s only shot to show the NFL what he’s got.

Offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni expects to see what Brissett has shown throughout camp tonight.

“Just the same thing he’s been bringing every day,’’ said Sirianni. “Just the execution of the play, the understanding of the play, getting us into the right protection call, finding the open guy, getting us into the right run-check if we have a run-check on.’’

New York beat Baltimore 9-4 last night in Camden Yards. The Orioles have not had the best season thus far with a record of 38-75 and would like to avoid another loss tonight. Left-hander James Paxton will be starting on the mound for the Yankees. Paxton has not been displaying his best performances as of late, winning 1 of his last 6 games. However, that 1 win was in his last game where the Yankees beat Boston 4-2. His overall ERA is 4.61 with a 6-6- record. His pitching stats when it comes to playing Baltimore are 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

Starting for Baltimore is another lefty, John Means, with an ERA of 3.12 and a record of 8-6. Means is coming fresh off of the IL, sitting out his last two games with bicep soreness. He won 1 out of his last 3 games before being benched with an injury. This season, Means has had a total of 78 strikeouts. Paxton has had 123 strikeouts.
